Katie Palermo

Hi! It's nice to meet you.

Let me tell you a little about myself.

Early Days

I was born and raised in Erie, PA. Fun Fact: Erie is #1 in the nation for the most snow. I moved to Charlotte, NC for college and stayed there for sixteen warm years. Then it was time for a new challenge, so I moved to Brooklyn, NY.

Career

My career has taken me in a lot of twists and turns. I started in events and PR, then moved into marketing, then digital UX. Regardless of my position, the thing that stays constant is my ability to use empathy to solve problems and build relationships.

Let us consider together, what if monkeys were purple.

My father is a business owner and he has a saying, what if monkeys were purple. It describes how he considers problems from every angle. He and I share that.

I enjoy solving complex multivariate problems. User research is a puzzle to me that I am trying to solve. I use empathy and strategic thinking to consider all of the ways to approach a problem and find the solution that works best for the team.

I embrace cross-functional collaboration, especially those that are designing or solving for the user. I build honest relationships with stakeholders, where we can trust one another and are willing to work together.

I prioritize accuracy over speed, but find thoughtful ways to make incremental progress, showing the vision to leadership. Willing to pivot quickly when the situation calls for it, but my choices are made thoughtfully.

I believe the best solutions come from cross-functional collaboration, especially with those closest to designing for and solving user problems. I focus on building honest, trust-based relationships with stakeholders so we can work through challenges openly and move forward together.

I prioritize accuracy over speed, while still finding ways to make meaningful incremental progress when plans shift. I aim to show a clear vision to leadership while remaining flexible—ready to pivot when needed, but always making decisions thoughtfully. I’m particularly drawn to uncovering the gap between what people say they want and what they truly need, and using that insight to guide better outcomes.
